All homeowners are eventually faced with the question “which HVAC contractor should I choose?” While there are several reputable HVAC contractors in the Greater Kansas City area, we want to make sure you know what to look for before you decide to hire one. You’ll want to pay attention to several different things, not just pricing.
When you purchased your home, odds are you had a checklist of things you wanted: large backyard, hardwood flooring, a certain amount of bedrooms, etc. You most likely didn’t purchase the first house you looked at, at least not without looking at others first. The same goes for hiring an HVAC contractor. Because your HVAC system keeps your home’s air flowing cleanly and heats and cools you down, you’ll want to make sure you hire a contractor that can properly care for your system to ensure it operates at its optimal performance.
At Cates Heating and Cooling, we want to make sure your HVAC system is properly installed and taken care of. We suggest looking for the following things before hiring someone to install or repair your HVAC system.
Study. You’ll want to become familiar with insurance and license requirements for HVAC contractors in the Greater Kansas City area. This will help ease your mind knowing the contractor you choose to hire meets all state requirements.
It’s also a good idea to do some light research about the companies’ A/C technicians; are they professionally trained and certified?
Be sure to request proof of worker’s compensation and liability insurance. Contractors should be willing to provide you with a certificate of insurance. If the company doesn’t have insurance, you could be held liable for injuries and other mishaps.
Ask around for referrals. You trust your friends and family, so why not get names of contractors they use for their home servicing? You can also compare online reviews for heating and cooling companies in your area. Look for their Google and Facebook reviews by simply doing a search on Google. You can also search for their BBB business profile and any other online review websites you’re interested in. Most companies will also post reviews on their website. Most HVAC companies will provide customer references upon request as well.
Get itemized estimates. While pricing is a huge factor in choosing a contractor, you’ll want to be sure to request and compare proposals to make sure the cost of the estimate includes warranties.
Look for special offers. Do some research by looking at and comparing special offers from various HVAC companies. Most companies will have a special offer or coupon section on their website, or would be happy to let you know about their current specials via phone. (We have some incredible deals through May 14th: we’re offering Triple Play Savings and if you join our Comfort Club or book a service call, you’ll receive guaranteed cooling with same day priority and no service fee if your A/C stops cooling.
