I recently had my A/C serviced by Cates and was very pleased with their service. They both emailed and texted me reminders for the appointment and several more texts about technician arrival. One thing that I thought was really nice was they emailed a photo of tech so I knew who was coming.

I am a new customer to Cates Heating and Cooling and recently had my AC tune-up completed. The technician arrived on time and thoroughly explained everything he was going to do during the service. He truly went above and beyond compared to other HVAC companies I’ve used in the past.

What really stood out was the attention to detail — he took the time to properly wash the coils from the inside out and made sure everything was running perfectly before leaving. I also appreciated that there was absolutely no pressure or upselling. He simply came in, did the job right, and provided excellent service.

I will definitely continue using Cates Heating and Cooling for all my HVAC needs and highly recommend them to anyone looking for honest, professional service.

I had my yearly AC tune up today and had awesome service. I wanted to give a shoutout to Shawn B who was my technician today. Shawn completed my tune up this morning, but called later in the afternoon to inform me he wanted to come back to make sure he didn't miss a step from earlier. This kind of accountability and integrity is rare and shows how great the employees at Cates are. Would absolutely recommend this team!

We installed a new AC Unit last fall. Cates did the full install and n provided exceptional customer service. They come out every 6 months to dona system check. Don C provided the same excellent customer service we received during install and demonstrated how to replace the new air filters. I highly recommend Cates for your heating and cooling needs.

First of all, after meeting with two other companies, it was clear to my wife and I that Cates was head and shoulders above the rest. Matt was organized listened to our needs. He used a laptop to document what we wanted and then used out the applications to work and provided various comparisons of different units.
Once we decided on Cates and the unit for our home, scheduling was easy and predictable but most of all dependable. Matt oversaw all the work which gave us great peace of mind.
I cannot recommend Cates highly enough!!! This five star rating is well deserved!

I’ve been a satisfied customer of Cate’s Service for several years now. I’m a member of their “”Comfort Plan”, which I get both a AC & furnace preventitivr maintenance inspection and cleaning. In addition, I receive 10% savings on repairs, priority service calls, and no emergency service rates on nights and weekends.

I have my residence and rental properties on this plan. I believe I’ve received honest advice and service from Cates. I called them years ago for a 2nd opinion to make an over $1,000 repair recommendation from a company that says you can trust them with your house keys. Cates said there was nothing wrong that needed repaired. I FIRED that company, & have been with Cates ever since. I believe regular service and maintenance prolongs my HVAC equipment.

I’ve also purchased 2 complete HVAC systems from Cates, and those experiences were both reasonably priced and positive.

I have no reservations in giving Cates my highest recommendation. And those that know me understand I’m not an easy customer to deal with. They’ve earned my trust and my business. It’s hard to find an honest repair service. So far I’ve been very satisfied!!

Cates is a great customer experience. We have signed up as regular maintenance customers, but recently experienced a problem with our furnace starting up. Both Randy and Walter came out to diagnose the problem and Walter determined the cause was a critical electronic component. He discussed the cost up front and compared it to replacing the system without any pressure to go either way. We ended up opting for the repair, and he was able to get it installed and the system is working perfectly, confirming his diagnosis. He was very patient with my harebrained homeowner ideas that proved to be wrong. This could have been an opportunity to upsell several maintenance items we didn't need, but that's not how Cates does business. I appreciate the team and look forward to giving them our business when we are ready to replace the system.

Cates has always been absolutely amazing in our experience from estimate, purchase, and maintenance. The Carrier two-zone system we has installed manages the temperatures of the upstairs and downstairs perfectly. We haven’t had a single breakdown in the years since purchase. The closest thing was a weak capacitor during the Spring tune up that was replaced before failure. Our service contract has kept us free of concerns from day one.

Kyle Babb was excellent. Courteous; Friendly; Knowledgeable; Understanding and Thorough. He did more on an annual checkup for my A/C than any other tech ever has. There is a difference between just "getting it done" and "doing it right". Kyle did it right. I will be requesting him for all service in the future.
On the other hand, I can't say anything good about the service manager that I spoke with while Kyle was here.
Kyle saved me as a customer for you guys in spite of the service managers lip service / excuses. (my opinion)

Had the spring tune-up from Cates Service last week. The service was excellent! The technician, Luke Ochs, coordinated a follow-up visit the same day from Vincent Polanski, a Lead Installer, to help resolve an issue with the air filter on the furnace. Vincent was resourceful and made alterations to make it easier to change the filter. Great customer service!

I had similar experience as others with Hometown "Hustlers" as they are far from heros. Hometown literally turned my furnace off and said they could call fire department on me! And lied about my new water heater having lines backward. Fortunately I called Cates. Greg was there in half an hour, furnace was fine. DO NOT TRUST THE FOLKS FROM HOMETOWN HUSTLERS!

Yesterday, I was told by another company (NOT Cates) that I had a dangerous situation in my home related to a high carbon monoxide reading and cracks in my heat exchangers. They called for back up and a second technician came to do another reading, which also supposedly came back very high. After a lot of drama and scare tactics, they tried to sell me a 14,000 NEW furnace. Instead, I had a second company come out (Cates Heating and Cooling) Fortunately, they were there right away as my house was starting to get pretty chilly due to the former company's scare that I could be endangering my family by keeping my heat on. Within a short period of time, I was told that my carbon monoxide reading in the open air was 1 and within the system, nothing more than 20. They also informed that when this is actually a problem, I have a 20 year warranty on those exchangers. I feel so grateful to the techician and to Derek at Cates for their prompt and honest service and for putting my mind at ease. I highly recommend Cates Heating and Cooling for all of your HVAC needs.

Kyler, the tech who came out today was great! He went above and beyond just the replacement of parts. Not only does my HVAC work like new again but improved my thermostat setting to make my home more comfortable. My thanks too to Paul who came out on a Sunday and to the other tech who not only diagnosed the problem on Monday but helped give Cates' office workers what they needed to get the parts ordered quickly and to get the parts covered under the warranty. Cate's was fantastic to work with. Every one of their technicians was thorough and experienced and worked with me throughout a long process to make sure everything was repaired and replaced correctly. 24-hour service line with people who are knowledgeable and very helpful to keep everyone coordinating with one another. They tested their work and made sure the unit was functioning exactly how it should once the unit was installed.

I worked with Pat Marsh and he was incredibly helpful with informing me and giving me the knowledge I needed to make the right decision regarding my AC and furnace, coordinating with me during the long process of getting it repaired and eventually replaced through my apartment complex, making sure that I got the unit that I needed, and making sure that my unit was installed with care and attention to detail. He was great to work with, along with every other technician who came out to work on my unit.

It is difficult to find businesses that do high quality work with high quality service and don't take shortcuts. I trust Cates to make sure I'm getting what I'm actually paying for. I would highly recommend Cates to anyone, can't go wrong here.

We’ve used Cates for years now and have always been expressed with the service we have received. We had a warranty issue during Junes heatwave and the part had to come from the factory. As soon as the parts were here we got a call to repair 2 hours later. Dillan was our service technician nice and polite and didn’t leave till we were cooling down. Over the MLK holiday weekend, with the extremely cold weather, my brand new furnace began to malfunction. I called Cates on Saturday and Vincent was here by noon. He got the furnace running, but was concerned that the problem might not be solved. He left his contact information in case of further problems. Mid-afternoon, it was clear that the furnace was still not heating correctly. Vincent returned and worked diligently to determine what the problem was. He stayed for several hours to make sure we had heat and our pipes wouldn't freeze overnight. He also diagnosed the problem and corrected it so that we have had no further issues. He went above and beyond to help us on that bitterly cold holiday weekend and we are extremely thankful for his dedication and strong work ethic! Cates is a great HVAC company!

The heat went out this morning. It was 7 BELOW zero this morning in Lenexa. Thankfully I have a contract with Cates Heating & Cooling Heating and Cooling. I called at 6 am and Ethan got here at 8:30 am. Ethan found the problem, got the needed part and had the heat on in about 2.5 hours. We received a quote for an HVAC replacement from Cates. Ultimately, we ended up choosing a different company, but I want to praise the level of friendliness, care, and professionalism that our estimator, Dan showed.

He was very knowledgeable and shared that knowledge to give us a great understanding of the terminology around the business and what the process would entail. Prices were very competitive and I would highly recommend this company based on my experience.

We have had Cates' yearly combined inspections of our furnace and AC systems for the past two years now. The AC inspection was completed by Kylar yesterday, and we are very pleased with the thoroughness and knowledgeable service he provided. Our furnace and AC systems are quite old (installed 22 years ago when we built this house), and we're trying to stretch out their functional lives as long as possible. Thus far, they work just fine, and the house is so well insulated that we place little demand on these appliances. But a regular thorough inspection by someone who knows what to evaluated and has the tools and skills to do this is very helpful for gauging how long we can expect to go before replacement. That's what we appreciate most about our service contract with Cates.

Finally, another company Temperature Pro (also very good - but couldn't install the unusual system we needed at the time) recommended Cates. That said a lot to me - if someone in the business says that is who they would use - spoke volumes. From the very beginning Pat Marsh in sales to the installers - a father and son team- (Preston and sorry I can't remember the Dad's name!) were outstanding! The epitome of customer service and professionalism. Could not have been happier. Timely, tidy and very well versed in everything HVAC. This was a really big job and they were super efficient. Without reservation I would highly recommend!!

This is the second time I’ve submitted this recommendation. For some reason the first one never went through. We have been loyal customers of CATES Heating & Cooling for the past eight years and have always referred this great company to anyone inquiring about AC/Heating services. A few weeks ago, in the middle of a COVID-19 lock down, I called CATES for what I thought was a thermostat problem. I had planned to have a new one installed when AC was checked this late Spring, so had a new one on hand. It was NOT a thermostat problem after all, but the furnace motor was in the process of burning out. CATES once again sent one of their fantastic servicemen, Ryan Peck, who installed the new thermostat and delivered the bad news about the motor. It was very close to the time he was off, but he called a supply company exec at home and arranged for the man to open up his shop for him so he could obtain the required motor. That’s CATES – that was Ryan Peck – going above and beyond their call of duty on a weekend after hours. I highly recommend this fantastic company and their great service people. We were shocked with disappointment after being told by a different company that we "should" replace our entire system for $9k, but to get our AC working again, we needed to replace the AC compressor for $4k.
Enter Cates:
We had called Cates to get an estimate for a new condenser unit and/or system. The man who answered the phone reassured us that they were interested in helping us make the best decision for our needs. This was already feeling much different than the first company we called.
Cates estimator was not only able to diagnose the actual problem with our condenser (something the other company "overlooked"), but he FIXED the issue (photo of problem) and inspected the rest of our HVAC, in under 1 1/2 hours and for under $100! The rest of our HVAC was in good condition and he recommended we have a tune up done for the summer.

Awesome customer service. Fantastic tech!!! Our service tech, Dan, walked me through all the trouble shooting. Made a few adjustments to our noisy furnace. Now it runs quiet and worry free. Even took the time to give me an in depth tutorial on all the crazy functions my thermostat can do (ie heat pump, delay, even change the color on background and font). He also made sure that all the sensors settings were correct and programmed to optimal efficiency. Now my thermostat is as excited for the Super Bowl as I am! GO CHIEFS!!!
